(CAN) Reports

Judy B. Engelhard, CAN Coordinator for the Division for Learning Disabilities, provides brief reports for TeachingLD.org so that visitors can keep informed about important developments in policies affecting students with learning disabilities and their teachers. TeachingLD.org is pleased to offer this page as a place for people concerned with learning disabilities to keep up to date.

10 June 2005

The Department of Education announced proposed regulations for IDEA and is seeking comments about them from the public. Although the official notice of the proposed rules will be published in the Federal Register later, in June, members of the public can get an unofficial copy now.

You may download a copy of the proposed rules from a U.S. Department of Education link. The official version will be available later and will be linked here, too.

The public will have an opportunity to comment in face-to-face meetings with John Hager, assistant secretary of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). Those meetings are to be held at various places around the U.S. People who cannot attend a public meeting can send their comments to OSERS electronically or by paper mail. We'll provide more information about how to do this in an update to this TLD page.
