IDEA Reauthorization Progress
The Senate voted to requthorize IDEA in May. Both the House and Senate bills reauthorizing IDEA (S1248 and HR 1350, respectively) are now in conference committee. Representatives of the House and Senate on the committee will negotiate a final bill. The version that comes out of conference will go before both houses for a full vote. If passed, the final version will go to the President to be signed into law.

What Next?
Once the final IDEA reauthorization bill becomes law, the Department of Education must develop regulations for the law. DLD has participated with other learning disabilities organizations in meetings referred to as the "LD Roundtable." The primarily goal of this activity is to prepare regulatory language supportive of students with learning disabilities and their teachers. (Read about this process in the 31 March update). The group of organizations participating in the Roundtable discussions has submitted comments to the Department of Education for consideration.
