(CAN) Reports

Karen Rooney, CAN Coordinator for the Division for Learning Disabilities, provides brief reports for TeachingLD.org so that visitors can keep informed about important developments in policies affecting students with learning disabilities and their teachers. TeachingLD.org is pleased to offer this page as a place for people concerned with learning disabilities to keep up to date.

Legislative Update by Karen Rooney, CAN Coordinator

The rumor floating on the Hill has the Senate HELP Committee ready to file the Committee report on S1248 this week. There are some technical changes but the bill is a revision, not a new bill. When the bill is filed, S1248 will go to the full Senate for consideration. The next step would be Conference, which would have Conference Committee members negotiate the differences between the House bill and the Senate bill.

Fortunately, the DLD Board took the initiative and provided input on the issues related to learning disabilities to the HELP Committee prior to the changes made in S1248. At this time, no one has seen the Committee report but information will be provided as soon as the report is available.
