The Board of Directors has been quite busy this year. In February, Directors met to discuss current issues in the field of LD, including response to instruction and reauthorization of IDEA. In the meetings, Directors completed several tasks, including developing a clear description of DLD's position on RTI, creating a plan for advocacy in IDEA reauthorization, and determining appropriate participation with other disability groups. Results of these discussions can be seen in the various position statements and activities described in New and Noteworthy and in the Member's Only updates.
In addition to the February retreat, the Board held meetings in New Orleans during the CEC Convention. Reports from all officers and committees were heard and discussions revolved around several important issues, such as membership, publications, CEC, and the website. The Board met with representatives from CEC and Blackwell Publishers to discuss advocacy plans and changes to current publications. Specific plans for the 2004 Conference in Orlando were discussed as was the planning of the 2005 conference in Charleston, SC. The next meeting is scheduled to coincide with the DLD Conference in November. Representatives from the Board have participated in many of the advocacy and planning consortiums that have taken place throughout the year to address reauthorization of IDEA.
