Board and Business Meetings

15 April 2004

MINUTES OF DLD ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel
New Orleans, Louisiana
April 15, 2004

Call to order 6: 10 pm
President Edwin Ellis
Ellis announced a change in the typical format of the business meeting, specifically to have dialogue with the membership and time to talk informally regarding issues instead of reading officer and committee reports. Summaries of reports were provided to members; full reports will be posted on the DLD website. Given the nature of the meeting, adoption of an agenda was not necessary.

Approval of minutes from April 10, 2003
Secretary Judy Engelhard
Annual Business Meeting in Seattle, WA
Minutes approved as written (moved by John Lloyd, seconded by Kim Bright)

Special Recognitions and Awards
Ellis thanked persons leaving the DLD board: Zigmond, Fuchs, and Engelhard

Ellis announced winners of recent DLD elections:

  • Vice President: Karen Rooney
  • Secretary: Martha Larkin

  • Paraeducators and suggestions for professional development
  • Research in the LD field and relationship to IES, future funding, and the role of CAN Committee
  • Highly qualified teachers and NCLB; concerns regarding having special educators as collaborators rather than teachers for students with LD
  • Successes: advocacy with other LD organizations, DLD website, Professional journal LDRP
  • Viability of DLD on the national level and ability to advocate for DLD's position
  • Construct of LD and Dilution of field of LD
  • Interface of DLD with CEC
